Luther S. Lichty, age 94, of Whitehall PA, formerly of Schnecksville PA, died Monday, May 18, 2004 in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. He was the Widower of the late Pauline F. (Wagner) Lichty.
Born in Orefield PA, he was the son of the late Carmi K. and Jennie E. (Smith) Lichty. He was a Machinist at Bonney Forge in Allentown PA for 6 years, retiring in 1973. Prior to that, he was a Foreman at the former Lehigh Building Block Company, Allentown PA for 10 years. He also worked part-time at Krause Dodge in Schnecksville for 20 years, retiring in 1990 and was a part-time School Bus Driver for the Parkland School District for 10 years. He was the oldest male Member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville PA. He honorably served his country during World War II in the Marine Corp. At the beginning of World War II, he plowed "victory gardens" and then took voluntary induction in the Marine Corp. He was the oldest charter Member of the Vernon G. Kern, V.F.W. Post # 8344, Schnecksville, a Member of Lehigh Lodge # 326, F.&A.M., Trexlertown, a Member of Lehigh Consistory, Valley of Allentown and a Member of Rajah Shrine, Reading.
He is survived by his Grandchildren, Edward A. Lichty, Debra L. Mooney, Bonnie L. Miller, Thomas R. Lichty, Susan D. Lichty; 5 Great Grandchildren; and Daughter-in-Law Jean H. (Hendricks) Lichty of El Cajon CA. He is Predeceased in death by his son Randall W. Lichty, 2002.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2004 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville PA. Family and Friends may Call 9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. Monday in the Funeral Home. The Reverend Dennis W. Moore and The Reverend Jami L. Possinger officiating. A Masonic Service shall take place at 10:20 a.m. Monday. Interment will take place in the Union Church Cemetery, Neffs PA with Military Honors.
