Wilbur O. Diehl, 93, of Schnecksville, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 in his home. He was the husband of Rachel A. (Kern) Diehl. The couple celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary last July 4.

Born in Allentown, July 23, 1918, Wilbur was the son of the late Wilbur H. and Edna B. (Houser) Diehl. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a bugler and gunner, serving on the U.S.S. Intrepid. Wilbur was employed as a foreman in the cheese production area of the former Lehigh Valley Dairy for 33 years before retiring in 1983. Prior to that, he worked for the former Roy J. Kern Trucking, Schnecksville. He was a member of the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post # 16, Slatington and the Union United Church of Christ, Neffs.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, Rachel; children, Gloria E. Simock and her husband, John, of Neffs, Leonard B.”Lenny” Diehl and his wife, Jayne, of Washington Township; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; predeceased by a brother, Robert Diehl.

Service: Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9. 2012, at Union U.C.C., 5550 Route 873, Neffs, with the Rev. Thomas N. Thomas officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the church. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements.
