Joanne (McNeer) Simpson, 65, of Huntingdon, formerly of Germansville, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the Westminster Woods in Huntingdon. She was the wife of the late Mark S. Simpson to whom she was married 34 years before his passing in 2010. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, March 15, 1946, Joanne was the daughter of the late William S. Sr. and Anelu (Tweedy) McNeer. After graduating from Pitman High School, in Pitman, NJ and Ursinus College, in Collegeville, where she majored in mathematics and minored in education and physical education, Joanne taught math in the Springfield Township Senior High School, Montgomery County, for 6 years before retiring in 1974. She and her husband, Mark, enjoyed coaching youth soccer, gardening and preserving foods as well as making jams and jellies. Joanne was a basketball and field hockey official. Survivors: Son, Michael S. Simpson of Seattle Washington; daughter, Sharon S. Yohn and her husband Charles Yohn of Huntingdon; siblings, Joseph T. McNeer and his wife, Jacqueline, of Dry Fork, West Virginia, William S. McNeer, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Thomasville, North Carolina, Cindy K. Eddy and her husband, Doug, of Melbourne, Florida, Cheryl L. McFarland and her husband, Robert, of Sewell, New Jersey; granddaughter, Emily Joanne Yohn; predeceased by a brother, Charles A. McNeer. Service: A private graveside service will be held at Heidelberg Union Cemetery, Slatington, with the Rev. David L. Hess officiating. No public calling hours. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements.
