Joseph J. Prokopovich, 88, of Allentown, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Kimmel) Prokopovich. Born in Freeland, October 23, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Sr. and Mary (Halek) Prokopovich. A member of the Macungie V.F.W. Post # 9264, Joseph faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of Operations in the 478th AA Battalion during World War II. He was employed at the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. in the Rolling Mills for 32 years before retiring in 1983. Joseph was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Dorothy; children, JoAnn D. Hein and her husband, Dennis of Allentown, David J. Prokopovich and his partner, Leo of Whitehall, Theresa M. Schwartz and her husband, Darel of Reading, Dorothy A. Torres and her husband, Wilson of Bethlehem; sisters, Anna Costanzo of Moscow, Irene Rudewick and her husband, Robert of Boynton Beach, Florida; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, with the Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Wargo as Celebrant. Family and friends may pay the respects from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Interment with military honors will follow the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements.
