Ethel A. (Kern) Piger, 89, of Allentown, formerly of Buckingham, Bucks County, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Piger. Born in Hazleton, Luzerne County, August 14, 1921, Ethel was the daughter of the late Frederick J. Sr. and Sarah C. (Good) Kern. She owned and operated the former Ethel's Beauty Shop in Upper Black Eddy, where she also was a caregiver for Mary Wolf. Ethel was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, where she volunteered with the Helping Hands. Survivors: Sister, Fern J. Heffner of Allentown; brother, Frederick J. Kern, Jr. of Whitehall; several nieces and nephews; predeceased by a sister, Doris M. Hartman. Services: Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. Kris P. Snyder-Samuelson officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
