Larry, Joel, Phil and Jill:

As your childhood play friend growing up on the fringes of the then tiny village of Schnecksville I think what I remember most about your Dad was his quiet dignity. When we needed chiding, which you’ll recall was fairly often, he did in a way and with a manner that put us in our place but also taught us a life lesson.

The obvious affection he showed to his children and your mother and, indeed, nearly everyone I ever witnessed him encounter is a trait extant in few individuals today.

I know how much you all loved and honored him as a father and as an important part of a burgeoning community. In my second career in township government, I had occasion to talk to your Dad on several issues. Although it isn’t supposed to be so, the opinions of someone you grew up respecting somehow always carry more influence.

While we haven’t seen each other in many years, I’m aware that each of you has achieved success in your chosen field and are doing important work to better our world. I’m certain Mom and Dad are smiling on you – for they’re assuredly together again.
