Joseph S. “Jack” Kocher, Jr., 86, of Whitehall, died Friday, February 5, 2010 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of the late Virginia A. (Borger) Kocher.

Born in Egypt, January 4, 1924, Jack was the son of the late Joseph S. Sr. and Marion (Crouthamel) Kocher. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed in the Maintenance Department at the Township of Whitehall for 20 years before retiring in 1990. Prior to that, he worked as a Service and Installation Technician for Ralph D. Weaver Fuel Oil in Allentown for 24 years. Jack was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Whitehall. Active in the life of his community, he was a Past Commander of the V.F.W. Post 7293 in Egypt, a member of the Whitehall Senior Citizens, Keen Agers of Laurys Station, and the Whitehall Chapter of the AARP.

Survivors: Son, Carl D. Kocher and his wife Darleen of Whitehall; siblings, Robert Kocher of Egypt, John Kocher of Walnutport, Lorraine Oswald of Slatedale, Thelma Seidel of New Tripoli; grandchildren, Michelle L. Dickman, Jennifer N. Wentling, Christopher M. Kocher and his wife Sheila; great grandchildren, Reagan O. Wentling, Quinn T. Wentling, Logan C. Dickman, Ella A. Kocher Aiden K. Dickman, Jack D. Kocher; predeceased by sisters, Gladys DeLong Jean Rohr, Bernice Hoosier.

Services: Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4331 Main Street, Whitehall with the Rev. James W. Schlegel officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church foyer. Private interment with military honors on Thursday at Egypt Cemetery, Whitehall. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements.
