Polly J. (Lewis) Ivenz, 91, of Williams Twp., died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Easton Nursing Center, Easton. She is the widow of Arthur Paul Ivenz.

Born in Liberty, NY on September 18, 1917, she is the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Shifflett) Lewis. She is a graduate of Liberty High School in 1934 and finished her nursing degree in 1938 from Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. Polly was a Program Director for Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary and Wilderness Trust, Williams Township from 1973 - 2002, giving tours and programs to children from schools and nature organizations, originated and directed Nature Camps in Summer. She was a self-taught botanist; created a herbarium, library of materials about nature and the environment, and Nature Center. She helped children at Williams Twp. Elementary School plant a native species garden.

A true community activist not limited to. Active member of the former D.U.M.P. (Don't Uglify Morgan's Pride), an organization that successfully opposed turning the McInerney and Llewellyn farms on Morgan Ridge into a garbage dump. She became a coordinator of the recycling programs advised by the Chrin Brothers, that is still in existence. She was a member of League of Women Voters, contributing to publications on Area Natural Resources, Nuclear Power, the Federal Clean Air Act and Solid Waste Disposal.

She was appointed by Congressman Don Ritter to the Lehigh Valley Clean Air Council; Girl Scout Leader; provided bird accounting for Audubon Society. She was a member of the Beaver Kill Chapter of DAR, Liberty, NY. A member of Williams Twp. Bicentennial Committee, 250th Anniversary Committee, Williams Twp. Garden Club, she chaired the Northampton County “Windshield Survey” of historic buildings. A past member of the Board of Trustees at Mary Meuser Memorial Library; Williams Twp. Historical Society and Northampton County Historical Society. Polly contributed articles to “The Pastfinder,” quarterly newsletter of the Williams Twp. Historical Society and articles to the former Easton Express. She was a founding partner for the Delaware Estuary Program.

Survivors: Children: Michael A. Ivenz and his wife Patty Jo, Susan wife of Jeff Hartman and Celia wife of Pete Love; 7 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren.

Services: Memorial Service 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Main St. Hellertown. There will be no calling hours. The Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Hellertown is in charge of arrangements.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Mary Mueser Memorial Library, 1803 Northampton Street, Wilson Borough, PA 18042-3183.
