Douglas M. 'Fritz' Dorward, 66, of Allentown, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 in his home, surrounded by his loving and caring family. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Cunningham) Jacob Dorward. The couple celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary last December 3.

Born in Allentown on September 6, 1942, Douglas was the son of the late William P. and Beatrice L. (Wright) Dorward. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic for the former Stroh / Pabst Brewery in Fogelsville for 30 years before retiring in 2002. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Douglas was a member of the Guthsville Rod & Gun Club, Orefield.

Survivors: Wife; son, Thomas D. Dorward and his wife Sharon of Allentown; daughters, Lucille J. 'Tina' Pradel and her husband Robert of Kuhnsville, Lynn M. Muick - Jezick and her husband Thomas of Macungie, Joann J. Flexer and her husband Daniel of Emmaus; brothers, Richard Dorward of Albrightsville, Benjamin Dorward of Greentown, Thomas Dorward of Seattle, Washington; sisters, Dolores Garabrantz of Unionville, Virginia, Agnes Held of Allentown, Kathy Rhoades of Hamburg; grandchildren, Lindsey, Douglas, Jeffrey, Lauren, Robert, Caitlyn, Ian, Shawn, Danielle, Shane and Kyleigh; great granddaughter, Taylor; predeceased by brothers, Irving 'Jack' and William Dorward and a sister, Gloria Zula.

Services: Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. Dr. David Charles Smith officiating. Family and friends may call 7:00 -8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery, Macungie.

Contributions: Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation and/or the Sacred Heart Hospice both in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box # 196, Schnecksville, PA 18078-0196.

As a new guy just hired at the brewery,thank you for making me feel welcome there. We spent many nights on third shift working together,talking about hunting,fishing and camping.Of course there was the 1 hour nap after lunch to get us through the long night.Thank you for everything,and I will never forget the guys from Pabst!

i am so sorry for your loss and send my deepest condolences. Doug was a friend of mine from the brewery. we knew each other for 28 years. i will always remember Doug for his humor and warm personality...what a lay back guy!...i always held Doug in high esteem. i was sorry to hear about his illness but am also sorry that it took him from you. i will remember him in my prayers and you as well. i am sure he is resting in peace with the Lord. God love you all.

DOUG & I WORKED TOGETHER ON 3RD SHIFT FOREVER.WHENEVER THE BOSSES WOULD CATCH US GOOFING OFF, WE WOULD POINT TO THE CEILING & TALK IN FAKE GERMAN MAKING BELIEVE WE WERE DISCUSSING A JOB. AND WE'D LAUGH OUR BRAINS OFF. I'LL NEVER FORGET DOUG, HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND.
