John V. Garzel, 59, of Fogelsville, died Thursday, October 23, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Judy M. (Huling) Garzel. The couple celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary last April 29.

Born in Coudersport, Potter County, on April 1, 1949, John was the son of Shirley M. (Earle) Garzel of Austin and the late Victor J. Garzel. He was employed as the Senior Vice-President of Supply Chain at Hatfield Quality Meats in Hatfield for the last 4 years. Prior to that, he was the General Manager at Moyer Packing Company in Souderton for 7 years and Vice President of Operations at the former ALPO Pet Food Company for 12 years. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting and belonged to many Rod & Gun Clubs.

Survivors: Wife; mother; daughter, Courtney L. Ray and her husband Timothy of Eagleville; son, Flynt H. Garzel of Fogelsville; sister, Terry McFarland of St. Augustine, Florida; brothers, Greg Garzel and his wife Cindy of Austin; Randy Garzel and his wife Daphne of Port Allegany; many nieces and nephews.

Services: Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2008 in the Thomas F. Fickinger Funeral Home, 210 North East Street, Coudersport with the Rev. Roger Laktash officiating. Family and friends may call 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Thomas F. Fickinger Funeral Home in Coudersport.
