Helen E. “Mom” (Henry) Helfrich, 89, of the Village at Willow Lane, Macungie, formerly of Ironton, died Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Stewart A. Helfrich.

Born in North Whitehall Township on January 25, 1919, Helen was the daughter of the late George M. and Souria (Kemmerer) Henry. She was employed as head cook at the former Lehigh Co. Vo-Tech School currently know as the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute for 10 years and the Parkland High School for 15 years before retiring. She was a Charter Member of the Lady Lillie Best Rebekah Lodge # 222, and the Upper Lehigh Lioness Club, both in Schnecksville; Helen was a member of the Union United Church of Christ, Neffs and the NOVA Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors: Sons, Woodrow S. Helfrich and his wife Mary of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Paul G. Helfrich and his wife Louise of Ironton; daughters, Carolyn H. Bostick and her husband Chester of Schnecksville, Joann E. Hunsicker and her husband Lee of Walnutport; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren.

Services: Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. Thomas N. Thomas officiating. Family and friends may call 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Rebekah Lodge Service at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union U.C.C. Memorial Fund c/o the funeral home, P.O. Box # 196, Schnecksville, PA 18078-0196.

I kknew Helen only a short time. but the time i knew her was wonderful. I used to wake her up in the mornings and help her get dressed. she was always happy and smiling. She was a wonderful lady and will be truly missed.
