Stephen G. Butchko, 87 of Phillipsburg, NJ died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Compassionate Care Hospice at Saint Clares Hospital, Dover, NJ. He was the husband of the late Beula E. Butchko.

Born in Phillipsburg, NJ on May 18, 1920 he was the son of the late John & Anna (Rejda) Butchko. Stephen worked for Sanco Piece & Dye Works in Phillipsburg for 28 years until they went out of business and then Stephen worked for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission until retiring in 1986. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Phillipsburg. He was a graduate of Ss. Phillips and James Catholic High School class of 1938.

Stephen was a member of many social clubs in Easton the Citizen Hose Club & the Order of Fleas Club to name a few. He was a Quarterback for the Philipsburg Panthers Semi-professional football team, member of the Knight of Columbus Third degree, Warren 474 Counsel, Jersey Hose Fireman's Association. He was an avid Notre Dame and Yankee Fan. He attended many Bethlehem Catholic athletic events and lead the fans in the “BC” cheer.

Survivors: Son: John S. of Phillipsburg, NJ,;Daughters: Katherine A. of Phillipsburg, NJ, Mary Ann wife of James Lindsey of Denver, NC; Brother: John of Phillipsburg, NJ; Predeceased in death by: Sister Mary Borromeo, Anna & Joseph Butchko.

Services: Will be Private. The Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Hellertown is in charge of arrangements.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. "Butchko" as he was known by the team, was always there to support the Hawks, win or lose. He was one of a kind and he will be greatly missed.
