Frederick Rentschler, 81, of the Phoebe Home - Allentown, formerly of Lower Saucon Township PA, courageously passed into eternity Friday, April 14, 2006 at his residence. He is the husband of the late Christine (Johnson) Rentschler, 2003.

Born in Newark NJ, he is the son of the late Frederick, Sr. and Mary D. (Dittes) Rentschler. In 1973, he purchased the former Bryfogle Motor Company, Slatington PA and formed Rentschler Chrysler-Plymouth (Jeep). He and his two sons also purchased the former Mueller Chevrolet and in 1981 renamed it Rentschler Chevrolet.

Mr. Rentschler received numerous manufacturer Sales and Service Awards before retiring in 1999. He started his automobile career in 1955 as a District Manager for Chrysler Corporation in Philadelphia PA. He was previously a Sales Manager at Hauser Chevrolet from 1962 - 1970 and Fries Cadillac from 1970 - 1973. He was instrumental in his company's participation in United Way for 30 years.

He served his country honorably during World War II in the United States Navy from 1943 - 1946 in the Pacific Fleet serving on the USS Cahaba as a Radar Man 3rd Class. He was a Member of First United Church of Christ, Hellertown. He was also a Member of the F.& A.M. Lodge 283, Bethlehem PA; the BPOE Elks, Bethlehem PA; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Former Member of the Allentown-Lehigh County Automobile Dealers; Director of PA Automotive Association, representing Lehigh County from 1988 - 1996; Past Director of Silver Creek Country Club, Hellertown PA and Secretary in 1952; and Mayor of Tullytown, Bucks County PA from 1953 - 1956.

He is survived by his Loving Sons, Frederick W. and his wife Gloria of Slatington PA and Richard K. and his wife Faye of Schnecksville PA; Daughter, Marlyn R., wife of Charles Dachelet of Seneca SC; and 7 Grandchildren Laurie, Greg, Kent and Marisa Rentschler and Daniel, Suzanne and Ted Dachelet.

Services will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville PA. Family and friends are respectfully invited to visit from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are by the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., Hellertown PA.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 212 East Broad Street, Bethlehem PA 18018 and/or the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place, Bethlehem PA 18017.


Condolences to the Family of Fred. He was a long time member of our Society and was well acquainted with many of our members. His engraved name plate will be placed on our memory plaque with our departed members.
